FAQ
Is Window Tint Legal in BC?
Yes, on the right windows. In BC, aftermarket tint is allowed on the rear side windows and back glass, but not on the front side windows or the windshield, apart from a strip across the top.
The Short Version
Tint behind the driver is allowed on a vehicle with outside mirrors on both sides, which nearly every car, SUV and truck has.
- Windshield: no aftermarket tint, apart from a strip across the top
- Front side windows: no aftermarket tint film
- Rear side windows: can be tinted
- Back glass: can be tinted
What About Factory Tint?
Many SUVs, vans and trucks come with darker rear glass from the factory. That is built into the glass and is legal. The rules above are about film added after the vehicle is sold.
If Tint Breaks the Rules
Police can ticket the driver and order the film removed. This page is a plain-language summary, not legal advice. The rules themselves are in BC's Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, and we install to them.
See our window tinting page for what we offer. Pairing tint with other protection? Look at ceramic coating and paint protection film.
