FAQ
How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last?
As long as the package is rated for: 1, 3, 5 or 7+ years, or lifetime. How you wash the vehicle decides whether it gets there.
Rated Life by Package
Those numbers assume normal care. A vehicle that goes through brush car washes every week, or rarely gets washed at all, wears its coating faster.
- Bronze: about 1 year
- Silver: about 3 years
- Gold: about 5 years
- Platinum: 7 years and more
- Lifetime: our longest-lasting coating
What Shortens a Coating's Life
- Brush and soft-cloth automatic washes
- Harsh, high-pH soaps and degreasers on the paint
- Road salt, bird droppings and tree sap left to sit for weeks
- Washing in hot sun and letting soap dry on the paint
How to Make It Last
- Hand wash every couple of weeks with a pH-neutral soap.
- Rinse salt off the lower panels often in winter.
- Dry with a clean microfibre towel or a blower.
- If water stops beading, book a decontamination wash. Usually the coating is just covered in road film.
Winter is the hard part here. Read how to wash a coated car in winter, compare ceramic coating and PPF, or see the ceramic coating packages.
Questions and answers
More Questions
1.How do I know if my coating is still working?
Water beads tightly and sheets off when you rinse, and dirt releases easily. If the beading fades, the coating is often just covered in road film, and a proper decontamination wash brings it back.
2.Does ceramic coating stop rock chips?
No. A coating is a thin, hard layer that resists chemicals, UV and light marring. For chips you need paint protection film.
