FAQ
Is Paint Protection Film Worth It?
For a new vehicle, a lease, dark paint or a daily highway commute, usually yes. Film is the only thing that physically stops rock chips.
What PPF Does
Paint protection film is a clear urethane film applied to painted panels. It takes the hit from gravel and road debris so the paint underneath does not chip. Light scratches in the film's top layer smooth out with warmth from the sun or warm water, and on a clean, well-prepped panel the film is very hard to see.
When It Is Worth It
- New vehicles, before the first chip happens
- Leased vehicles, where chips can cost you at turn-in
- Dark colours, where every chip shows
- Highway commuters behind gravel and logging trucks
- Vehicles you plan to keep for many years
When It May Not Be
If the front end is already badly chipped, film protects what is there but does not hide the chips. If you trade vehicles every year or two, a partial front package or a ceramic coating may be the better value.
Which Coverage to Pick
Most daily drivers pick a partial front: bumper, mirrors, headlights and the leading edge of the hood and fenders. See every option on the paint protection film page, and read ceramic coating or PPF to see how the two work together.
